Rapporteur Sabien Lahaye-Battheu ⚙
Mr. Speaker, I will be brief and speak from my bank.
Our committee discussed the present bill at the meeting of 1 June.
In her introductory presentation, the Minister’s Representative pointed out that a number of necessary and urgent adjustments to the Law of 7 July 2002 on the protection of threatened witnesses are needed.
The adjustments are on four points.
First, the protection of the police services that shield the threatened witness.
Second, the creation of a new ordinary protective measure, more specifically the registration on a contact address.
Third, the use of a temporary protective identity.
Fourth, an improved procedure for the definitive change of identity.
During the general discussion there were presentations from colleagues Schoofs, Brotcorne, De Wit, Van Hecke and myself.
Article 1 was unanimously adopted. Articles 2 to 7 were adopted by 13 votes and 1 abstinence. The entire bill was adopted with 13 votes and 1 abstinence.
