Mr. Speaker, Mr. Minister, I am ⁇ interested in this topic and, during the discussions on this project in committees, we have seen your interest and your availability in relation to what we are dealing with today, including that of the various political groups, which I am also pleased with.

We know that the Defense Staff is studying the possibility of making the status of the reserve military attractive. As far as we are concerned – which is why I wanted to speak today – we held a hearing session in June, for one day, bringing together a large panel of specialists as part of the discussion of my proposal for a resolution (document No. 2683) on the evolution and modernization of the reserve framework of the armed forces. I propose to each of my colleagues in the committee to co-sign it. The hearing showed that reserve military personnel felt the need to be recognized and to receive a status equivalent to that of the active frame. This will have to be taken into account.

Some elements tended to prove that we should start discussions with employers who tend to not always leave reserve military personnel available for their own reasons. There is a question of information that must be provided to them. It will be necessary to take into account the concerns of the private sector and work to establish a culture or a more positive image of the reserve, as can be seen in neighboring countries where there is an honored reserve status.

Mr. Minister, in my opinion, the reservists are a vector of rapprochement between the army and the nation. They promote national cohesion, an important element that should be emphasized on the eve of our national holiday.

Mr. Minister, dear colleagues, this is a dossier on which we will still be able to work together in perfect intelligence.

Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank Mr. Thiéry for the work he has already done on the reserve level. This is something that could help us have flexible soldiers, sub-officials and officers with specific skills useful for Defense.

This law aims to eliminate some current problems that prevent some interested parties from offering us their services. I would like to thank Mr. Thiery and the rest of the committee for their work.
