Rapporteur Miguel Chevalier ⚙
A very brief explanation was made in the committee by Mr Van Rompuy. I do not think there is a written report, so I will briefly summarize the content of the resolution.
In this resolution, colleagues Muylle, Van Rompuy and De Crem ask the government to urge the EU and the UN to stop North Korea’s nuclear tests.
They also demand that the government, by diplomatic means, urge China to withdraw the missiles, targeting Taiwan, and defend that position also within the Council of the EU and the UN Security Council.
They also call on the EU and the UN to urge China and Taiwan to engage in a political and constructive dialogue.
Finally, they also call for the institutionalization of the debate on security issues in the Far East.
They had also expressed a fifth wish to the government, namely to continue to defend the preservation of the arms export embargo to China with the EU. However, colleague Daems submitted an amendment in this regard to remove that paragraph 5 of the resolution, in particular defending the maintenance of the EU’s arms embargo against China. That proposal, which was formulated in the resolution, is actually not even being discussed in the European Council. By the amendment submitted by Mr. Daems, that fifth point was unanimously deleted.
The resolution was unanimously adopted in the committee.

So, Mr Chevalier, the amendment of Mr Daems was accepted?
Miguel Chevalier Open Vld ⚙
Yes, Mr. Speaker, the amendment was accepted; paragraph 5 was deleted.
President Herman De Croo ⚙
Knowing Mr. Daems, I had the impression that it could have been so.
Mr. Chevalier, there is indeed a written report. The pressure test has entered. This is a brief report. This is document 2921/3. I suspect the money was distributed to the banks.
