Rapporteur Bert Wollants

I refer to my written report.

If you allow me, I will immediately make a brief speech on behalf of my group.

The problem of the Stookolietankfonds has been dealing with us for a very long time. For more than sixteen years, this dossier has been a problem that needs to be solved. This file has been blocked for a very long time, even to the extent that a number of regions considered to set up their own fund, in the absence of a federal fund.

Minister Peeters was Minister of Environment in the Flemish government when this fund came to the table for the first time. It was already clear that there was a certain need for it. We know that polluted soil can lead to dramas. The costs for this can be ⁇ high. We see huge problems when someone wants to sell such land or when someone inherits such land.

So it is absolutely good that now, after all those years, there is an agreement. There have already been a lot of questions on this topic in this Half-Round. Both colleague Janssen and myself have paid a lot of attention to this matter in this and in the previous legislature.

I think that closing this file by starting with this new fund is of particular importance. The closure of such a file, with such a long run, is definitely a positive point by which we make a step forward in terms of reforms.

Minister Kris Peeters

Mr. Speaker, it is true that this file has been seized for many years. I would therefore like to thank Mr. Wollants for his positive words, which I will cherish, also for other moments.

A lot of people, as Mr. Wollants has said, will be relieved because they can now have the sanitation carried out with the support of the Stookoliet Tank Fund. That is a very good thing. I would like to thank everyone who voted positively.
