Rapporteur Willy Demeyer ⚙
Football must remain a pleasure. It is up to us to refine the tools to prevent the facts that may disturb the festive and family course of the matches.
The 2016-2017 season will be marked by a restructuring of the competition around two professional divisions and three amateur divisions. In this context, our assembly has already approved, on June 2, a modification of the Football Law to bring the state legal order in harmony with the football legal order.
Meanwhile, relevant remarks have been made by officers and police areas. One issue has remained unnoticed, namely that some clubs whose supporters exhibit risky behaviors now escape the measures aimed at preventing and punishing disruptive events. It was therefore appropriate to correct this situation before the start of the season set for July 29 next year.
The Internal Affairs Committee examined this proposal at its meeting on 12 July at the proposal of colleague Vermeulen. No objections were expressed.
I have had the opportunity to emphasize the need to carry out such a modification of the Football Act, so that it provides the appropriate tools for the competent law enforcement services. However, a thorough assessment of the Football Act remains requested by the members of the committee. It began on Monday with the Pro League auditions and the SPF Internal Football cell.
We will also pay attention to the workload and additional costs that an extension of the scope of the Football Act may entail.
The whole proposal was adopted unanimously.
