by Mr. Georges Dallemagne, rapporteur, refers to the written report.
Annick Ponthier VB ⚙
Mr. Speaker, with the present draft law, a paragraph from the law establishing the Belgian Technical Cooperation adds the obligation that the board of directors shall consist of members of the same sex for a maximum of two-thirds.
There is no doubt that boards of board of directors of all sorts of companies, such as multinationals, count less or too little women. Such a conclusion can be regretted. A government is free, and it is, by the way, a duty for a government to take initiatives to send something in a certain direction.
Is a quota system a good solution to address this problem? According to our group, at least this is not the case. We are convinced that the quality of the person sitting in a board of directors should always be at the forefront.
I myself would be insulted, by the way, if I as a woman could or should have a seat in a board of directors, merely and only because I am of the female sex.
We will not approve the present proposal.
Ministre Paul Magnette ⚙
I have little to add. For my part, I consider, on the contrary, that this is a very good proposal and that the quota of a third that is part of a general approach to feminising the boards of administration is a very good option.
