Rapporteur Peter Dedecker

Mr. Speaker, the report was rounded up at the beginning of the meeting and I would like to point out that.

I would like to come to my presentation. Telecom is a very difficult story. The technological evolution makes the infrastructure segment, telecommunications and its use, the media, more and more intertwined. Media, however, is a community jurisdiction and telecom a federal jurisdiction; therefore, agreement is required.

We are pleased that an agreement was reached and that the auction of telecommunications licenses, which will also be used for media applications, provided a distribution key. This distribution key also transfers part of the resources to the Communities. This is a logical evolution. Also given the efforts of the Flemish Community to release the frequency bands, it is logical that it is rewarded for this. The precedent value is also important: in future auctions there will also be a distribution. The use of the frequency bands will be monitored, allowing the distribution key to be revised.

In addition, I would like to add something about a comment made during the committee discussions that I found ⁇ strange. You will find them at the end of the report. Mr Deseyn proposed to be in favour of keeping all telecommunications powers, as well as all resources, thus all revenues from the auction of frequencies, entirely at the federal level. I found this ⁇ strange of Mr. Deseyn, because it is his party, which in the Flemish government under Prime Minister Kris Peeters insisted on the overthrow of those powers and resources.
