Mr. Speaker, I did not intend to hold a presentation because I thought that our rapporteur would have issued a report on one of the most interesting discussions I have experienced in the years I have been in this Parliament. There would finally, after more than 160 years, come an official Dutch translation of a law from 1844. However, we had to find that the Dutch translation contained errors against Dutch. I must be honest that we have had a lot of fun in the committee. At one point I even came to the conclusion that the translation of this bill was probably transmitted by dictaphone by a WestFlaming. From the words used, one could deduce that they were typed on dictates. We have divine fun.

However, it is sad that, after more than 160 years, one asks for the high urgency and already makes language errors in the title. Colleagues, to say it with the words of Gezelle "The Flemish language is miraculous sweetness for those who do not inflict violence on it." It is, however, with some bitterness that we establish that after more than 160 years, one is still unable to translate a small word into errorless Dutch.

Mrs D'Hondt, your quote reminds me of a historical matter. At a certain point, a certain direction in our country wanted to develop its own language. That stretch was of West Flemish origin and the poet-priest you quoted was at its base. The reason for this was the fact that Vlamingen and more specifically West-Vlamingen had some difficulty reading the Bible in the North Dutch language. Per ⁇ the DNA of the person who dictated the translation still contained traces of that.

I am not a West-Flaming, but I have been able to find that one of the advantages of a WestFlaming is the fact that when he comes to Sweden, he can still read Swedish. He cannot speak but he can read.

I have always had the impression that West Flamings are special.

If so, we could possibly annex Western Flanders to Scandinavia.
