Rapporteur Jenne De Potter ⚙
Mr. Speaker, I will keep it very brief and speak from on my bench.
This bill deals with the excise tax system for coffee and non-alcoholic beverages. The Minister of Finance pointed out that from 1 April 2010 a new electronic system for Community excise products will come into effect. This draft law aims to align the system in Belgium with the Community regulation in this regard.
Mr Van de Velde raised a number of questions about the fact that the proceeds from the excise tax on coffee are relatively small. The Minister replicated that the income from the excise duty for the first eleven months of 2009 represents an amount of 12 million euros for coffee, and of 48 million euros for non-alcoholic beverages. This is not small for the Minister.
The bill was adopted with ten votes in favour and five abstentions.
