Mr. Speaker, without wanting to disturb the speed of the work or the joy, I would like to draw the attention of the Minister of Internal Affairs to the present text.
It is an agreement in implementation of the Schengen Agreement. Apparently, the agreements with Germany are more extensive than what was agreed with France on cross-border observation, cross-border pursuit, stands and the like.
President Herman De Croo ⚙
Mr. Bourgeois, you said that already at the end of your response to the answer to your question. I actually listened well. The advantage of being always present is that you hear a lot.
Minister Antoine Duquesne ⚙
In terms of security and international cooperation, things are progressing rapidly. I signed this first agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany which goes, in fact, further than the agreement concluded with the French Republic. I add that my German colleague and myself are already negotiating a complementary agreement.
Following the contacts I had in France, I am convinced that, very soon, we will also sign a complementary agreement with this country. This is a good sign. This demonstrates that at a time when borders are disappearing in Europe – which is a good thing for citizens, a worse thing for the circulation of thieves – there are still boundaries that remain; they are those that concern police officers. This is gradually becoming aware in the states and everyone seems determined to strengthen the mechanisms of cooperation.
Geert Bourgeois N-VA ⚙
Mr. Speaker, I am pleased that the Minister sees the paradox that there are no boundaries for crime, but there are no boundaries for the police.
