I would like to speak briefly about the discussion we had in the committee. Uruguay has long been regarded as a tax haven. This is why environmentalists are delighted that a tax-type agreement can allow the transfer, unfortunately not automatically, but a transfer of tax data between this former tax paradise or this tax paradise - we do not know - and Belgium.
There was a discussion between Mr. Flahaux and myself in relation to the character of tax havens of Switzerland and Luxembourg. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Reynders, said that in determining a tax haven, he kept on the OECD list. I would like to remind you that since the Panama Papers, it turns out that although Switzerland and Luxembourg are indeed out of the OECD tax havens lists, it is not less that the Panama Papers have allowed to discover that Switzerland and Luxembourg play a backbone role in allowing the formation of screen companies then based in Panama. Switzerland and Luxembourg, as ⁇ Uruguay, I’m not a specialist, can continue to play a role in tax evasion even if formally, they are not on the OECD’s list of tax havens. That’s why we still have the same fears about these non-automatic tax information transfer systems. This is why Ecolo-Groen will abstain in anticipation of being able to enthusiastically vote on the automatic transfer of tax data between the former tax havens and our country.
