This is a short, but not insignificant report.
Mrs Claudine Drion made a comment on behalf of the Agalev-Ecolo group regreting that the international community does nothing but conclude a number of conventions on food aid. The UN Conference of the Least Developed Countries was held here in Brussels. It has once again demonstrated that developing countries need more and, above all, different measures to ensure effective food security and to effectively combat and overcome poverty. It calls attention to the provisions of Article 13 of the Convention, which state that food aid must meet a number of conditions in order to represent a real development opportunity. In particular, it requests Belgium to assess the impact of its food aid programmes, as also requested in point (j) of that Article.
